The Vereeniging Nederlandsch Historisch Scheepvaart Museum (Netherlands Historical Maritime Museum Association) is celebrating its 100th anniversary with the purchase of Gezicht op het IJ met 's Lands Zeemagazijn ('view of the river IJ with 's Lands Zeemagazijn') by Reinier Nooms (1623/24-1664).
The state yacht 'Statenjacht de Utrecht’ is a reconstruction of an 18th-century admiralty yacht, built according to traditional methods between 1997 and 2003 on the basis of original drawings dating from 1746.
In 2016 The Netherlands will be President of the Council of Ministers of the European Union (EU). The museum will form the main setting for these meetings, eg from May 29th up to June 3rd 2016.
The Netherlands was the first Western country to develop pleasure boating on a large scale; the first yachts were built as early as 1600, and Amsterdam’s first yacht harbour opened in 1622.

In consultation with the Supervisory Board Pauline Krikke has decided to step down as the director of the museum as of 1 January 2016.
Royal Barge now on display
The Royal Barge was successfully installed in the boathouse specially designed for him by DOK Architects.
