Pauline Krikke steps down as director

In consultation with the Supervisory Board of Het Scheepvaartmuseum (the National Maritime Museum), Pauline Krikke has decided to step down as the director of the museum as of 1 January 2016.

The Supervisory Board and Krikke could not come to an agreement on how to tackle the challenges that are facing the museum or find a common ground in the formulation of relevant policy.

Until 2013, Krikke served as the mayor of Arnhem and, preceding this, served on the Municipal Executive of Amsterdam. As a member of the VVD (People's Party for Freedom and Democracy), she served as a member of the Senate of the Dutch Parliament.

Krikke's responsibilities will be taken over temporarily by Hans Gerson, a member of the museum's Supervisory Board. Gerson previously served as the director of the Port of Amsterdam.
