From 17 February 2023, the National Maritime Museum will present a new acquisition: the watercolour Waves (2), by internationally renowned and acclaimed Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck.

Hans Op de Beeck: Nocturnal Watercolours Filled with Introspection

In his artwork, Op de Beeck aims to create a form and visual fiction that evokes a sense of wonder, silence, and introspection. Much of his work deals with the fundamental questions concerning the meaning and limits of life.

Op de Beeck created the black and white watercolour Waves (2) at night, where he can work alone, undisturbed, and without interruptions in his studio. This nocturnal creative process results in intimate watercolours, set in a dreamy and sometimes dark world.

In 2019, The National Maritime Museum exhibited a collection of Op de Beeck's work. Sea of Tranquility
