Come along and immerse yourself in the mysterious work of photographer Stephan Vanfleteren, create your own letter or drawing at the drop-in workshop, listen to an exciting story, or set off on your own with the viewing tour.
Free entry for children aged 4 and under
Fancy a fun and educational day out with the kids? At the National Maritime Museum, children up to and including the age of 4 are always welcome free of charge. Admission is also free for parents with a Museum Card or City Pass. With a valid museum admission ticket, everyone can take part in all the activities at no extra cost.

Kinderboekenweek in Het Scheepvaartmuseum
Op 7 oktober staat familiewoensdag in het teken van de kinderboekenweek! Schrijver Nancy Bosmans leest voor uit haar boek, Het meisje met de zaadjes in het haar. Harpist Indra Diallo bespeelt de harp en de West-Afrikaanse kora. Luister je mee? 7 oktober om 15.00 uur.
Inloopworkshop - Een zee vol verhalen
Ken je het verhaal van Het meisje met de zaadjes in het haar? In dit kleurrijke boek van Nancy Bosmans maak je kennis met Yaa die lang geleden samen met haar moeder moest vertrekken op een grote boot, ver weg van huis. Welke herinnering, plek of voorwerp zou jij voor altijd willen bewaren? Kom lezen en schrijf of teken over jouw thuis. Deze workshop is ontwikkeld in samenwerking met ArtPlayground. Dagelijks op inloop tussen 11.00 en 15.00 uur.
Post uit Suriname
Het Scheepvaartmuseum en ArtPlayground hebben de tekeningen en brieven die tijdens de zomervakantie gemaakt zijn verstuurd naar Suriname. De kinderen van The Hub in Paramaribo hebben zelf ook tekeningen en brieven verstuurd, deze gaan we tijdens te herfstvakantie bekijken. Misschien heb jij wel een reactie gekregen?
Voorleesclub - Walvissen aan Wal
Op een dag komen alle walvissen zomaar uit zee om op het land te wonen. Het is wereldnieuws! De visboer heeft nog nooit zoveel vis verkocht en in het zwembad is het voller dan ooit. Maar... waarom zijn ze eigenlijk aan wal? Het grappige, kleurrijke prentenboek Walvissen aan Wal van Nick Bland gaat over walvissen, mensen en zorgen voor water en natuur. Familiefluisterrondleiding
Hoe kijk jij naar kunst: heel kort of juist lang? En zie je andere dingen als je stil bent? Ga mee met de familiefluisterrondleiding en ontdek het zelf. Met deze rondleiding kijk je samen naar de spannende en mysterieuze kunst van fotograaf Stephan Vanfleteren. 14.00 en 14.30 uur ((25 min.) Aanmelden bij de informatiebalie op het Open Plein.
Kijkkaart
Wist je dat museumbezoekers gemiddeld maar een paar seconden naar een schilderij kijken? Deze kijkopdrachten nodigen je uit om langer stil te staan bij kunst en op een andere manier te kijken. Hoe kijk jij? Neem de kaart mee tijdens je bezoek en dompel je onder in het werk van fotograaf Stephan Vanfleteren in de tentoonstelling Transcripts of a Sea. Dagelijks tijdens openingstijden op te halen bij de tentoonstelling.

Sightseeing tour – A meandering tour of the museum
Great to see you at the museum! It’s such a big building, isn’t it? Not sure where to start? Why not set off on the discovery trail? From north to west and from outside to inside: on this trail, you and your family can see, draw and do all sorts of things. Available to pick up daily during opening hours at the Open Plein.
Vishotel - kleur en luister
The museum has a real hotel. Not for people, but for fish! Let your imagination run wild and colour them in with your favourite colours. This colouring page was designed by Kwennie Cheng, who also drew Doris the Diver. Pick one up every day during opening hours at the Open Plein.
Doris the Diver
Doris the Diver is an adventurous, maritime museum experience for families with children aged 2 and over. This narrative and interactive exhibition for the museum’s youngest visitors is a real playground.
The story of the whale
The exhibition The Story of the Whale shows how we have viewed whales over the centuries. You’ll learn about whaling and how it has led to whales becoming an endangered species. Designed especially for children aged 6 and over.
