Fashion brand MARTAN is inspired by the collection of the Nationale Maritime Museum and designed a limited edition collection to celebrate the upcoming exhibition Oceanista - Fashion & Sea.

Fashion brand MARTAN and The National Maritime Museum have teamed up to celebrate the upcoming exhibition Oceanista – Fashion & Sea, which will be on view this fall. The exhibition explores the influence of the maritime world on fashion and showcases sea-inspired creations by leading designers.

Established in a former shipyard, nautical culture and history are deeply woven into MARTAN’s DNA; therefore maritime influences have been visible in every collection.

For the MARTAN X The National Maritime Museum collection, designers Diek and Douwe have delved into the museum’s archives, drawing inspiration from historical drawings, stories, and objects.

They designed a print inspired by a swirling striped handkerchief underwater, as if it had been carried away by the wind after a sailor waved goodbye to his beloved one. A sketch from around 1675 by artist Gerrit Pompe of ships on the Kaag was also incorporated as a screen print on an oversized shirt. Of course, the iconic MARTAN 8 knot also appears in the designs.
