Good exhibitions that soak you into the Dutch history of maritime travel and development. If you want to experience more of a traditional outlook and a museum that is not built to serve as a tourist attraction first but with actual artefacts and historical data, this one is a must.

Excellent museum. So much new information on maritime history. A wonderful visit to the boat, which is very carefully and thoroughly equipped. Free entry with I Amsterdam card. A must visit

Exhibitions were nice, but the main attraction for me was the reconstructed Dutch merchant ship, "Amsterdam". The view from outside is amazing, but you can also visit the inside decks and hold, to get an idea of what it was like to sail in these ships. Don't miss the short movie of the old Amsterdam harbor screened inside the ship. The wide screen, combined with the gentle swaying of the ship in the water, makes for a unique experience.

Well worth a few hours! A highlight of our trip! Three very different vessels. Interesting exhibits! English audio explanations available. Beautiful building; check out the basement tunnel!

I love ships and I enjoyed this museum. The time inside can take about three hours or more with a child. There is a play area for children inside, which was nice.
