Tropical temperatures or torrential rains, during the summer holidays (13 July – 25 August) Het Scheepvaartmuseum (the National Maritime Museum) has the best indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family.
plastic fishing with the Plastic Whale sloop (7+)
Each day, children from 7 years old and up and their parents can go on a trip with Plastic Whale, the very first professional plastic fishing company in the whole wide world! In a sloop which leaves from our jetty, you will be helping Plastic Whale to clear the waters around the museum from plastic waste.
toddler's programme 'fishing is dolphinately nice!' (3-6 year olds)
Come along and discover a hidden place at the museum where a sombre fisherman tells an exciting and moving story about his latest catches. Do the toddlers know how to cheer him up?
family tour 'dry swimming' (6-12 year olds)
We almost literally swim through the museum during this new summer tour, on the lookout for exciting stories about water and fun.
Have a picnic at our jetty
Take a seat in the sun or the shadow at the jetty, get yourself a nice treat and enjoy the view! The jetty is only accessible with a valid museum ticket.
lookout tour wild-about-water weeks (6-12 year olds)
With each youth ticket, you get a free wild-about-water weeks lookout tour. Get acquainted with cool, happy, sad, strange and hopeful stories about mankind and water. Take the tour and have a chance to win a nice prize!
take the junior audio guide (8+)
The junior audio guide is available from July 13th and is suitable for eight-year-olds and up.
